Donald Trump.
It’s a name that is incredibly recognisable, with a face and hair that are probably equally (and at times) even more recognisable.
I think you would be hard pressed to find someone in the Western world that hadn’t heard of him.
Over the years he has also been called a lot of different names.
Entrepreneur. President. Media personality. You have to give it to him – the man wears many hats.
There is also another thing that is very much certain with Donald J. Trump; the 47th President of the United State of America.
And that is that the man knows how to generate a headline. I mean, he is always, always in the media cycle.
When we work with PR clients, we advise them that they have to have a unique point of difference. That they must be willing to take a stand on an issue or topic. It doesn’t cut it when you like to sit on the fence and be neutral. Also, they must feel comfortable talking to the media.
Well, Trump has all of the above in spades.
This week he was generating news headlines as he proposed that the US take control of the Gaza strip. Before that, he threatened Colombia that he would be implementing a 25% tariff. And before that, he boldly claimed that the US will ‘get Greenland’.
We are only in February and this man just consistently generates headlines. Yes, some of what he says is out there and outrageous. But that’s the thing, I think that he knows that and proudly owns it.
He has always been out there, a somewhat larger than life character.
Looking back to even his days on The Apprentice – it was the catchphrase ‘you’re fired’, the facial expressions and his presence. He has always known how to command a room.
It doesn’t matter where you stand on US politics and what you personally think of Trump.
The man knows how to generate a headline, he knows how to work the media and he really shows no signs of slowing down.
This is why I’ve got to add another name to that ever-growing list.
Donald Trump: the king of PR spin.
